How would you describe your Training and Education?
Paul earned a combined BA/MA in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. His early training focused on primary substance use and co-occurring treatment settings, and he later sought additional experiences to gain expertise in higher-acuity mental health care. Throughout his career, Paul has deepened his understanding of addiction and wellness through intensive, specialized training. He has participated in advanced workshops and mentorships in trauma treatment, gambling disorder, sex addiction, intimacy disorders, and related areas, integrating this knowledge into a comprehensive, trauma-informed approach at the core of his clinical practice.
How would you describe your Professional Approach and Style?
Paul identifies as a functionalist, believing that everything exists for a reason, and he brings this perspective into his counseling practice. He collaborates with clients to explore the underlying causes of distress that appear in daily life. Guided by a wellness-focused model, Paul emphasizes each individual’s inherent strengths and integrates these assets into a personalized plan aimed at addressing and resolving presenting concerns. His approach is collaborative, values-driven, and focused on helping clients build the skills and insight necessary to eventually move beyond the need for counseling, fostering long-term growth and self-sufficiency.
What areas would you say you have Expertise in?
With over two decades of experience, Paul specializes in treating substance use disorders, process addictions, and co-occurring mental health concerns. He also works with clients navigating life transitions, LGBTQ+ issues, and adolescent and young adult challenges. Paul brings a comprehensive, strengths-based approach, helping individuals address multiple compulsive behaviors while fostering resilience and long-term wellness.
On a Personal Note
Outside of the office, Paul enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, and spending quality time with his family. These activities help him maintain balance, stay curious, and bring energy and perspective to his work.
"Recovery - from anything - is within reach."
