How would you describe your Training and Education?

Mitchell's path to counseling ran through the classroom first. After a Bachelor's in English Literature and Creative Writing from Binghamton University and a Master's in Teaching from Montclair State University, Mitchell is now completing a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling at the University of the Southwest, interning at NJ Recovery & Wellness as part of that training. Alongside coursework, Mitchell works as a Sober Living Technician, supporting individuals living with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns — hands-on, daily experience with recovery as it actually unfolds. That combination of teaching, behavioral work as a Registered Behavior Technician, and frontline recovery support shapes a grounded, practical approach to the counseling room.

How would you describe your Professional Approach and Style?

Mitchell's approach is strengths-based at its core: identifying what you can do and building from there, rather than fixating on what's gone wrong. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing, Mitchell helps you locate your own core strengths and turn them into active, concrete plans for the concerns that brought you in. Just as central is the listening itself — Mitchell aims to genuinely learn and understand each client, and to help them understand themselves a little better in the process.

What areas would you say you have Expertise in?

Mitchell works best with teens and young adults, and with individuals navigating substance use and recovery. Mitchell also supports adults caring for aging parents, parents raising neurodivergent children, and LGBTQIA+ clients looking for an affirming space. Whether you're early in recovery, stretched thin by caregiving, or working through questions of identity and belonging, Mitchell offers a collaborative, nonjudgmental space to sort through it.

On a Personal Note

Outside of work, Mitchell values time with family and dogs, plays guitar, and writes. That commitment to community carries beyond the office, too — Mitchell regularly provides support within addiction recovery and mental health communities.
